How to Participate

1. Create a mix tape, sound collage, field recording, tape loop, or use an interesting found tape. The content, decoration, and contact information you leave are totally up to you. Feel free to consult our links and resources page for tips and inspiration.

2. Don't forget to package the tape with a stencil/instruction sheet so the person who finds it can continue the project.

3. Go out and find a good location for a tape station, or use an existing one. Apply the stencil and hide the tape. If you're not sure what to look for when creating a tape station, take a look at our image gallery or scroll down to the interactive project map below.

We'd love to hear about your interests in found sound and your experiences with the project. Please contact us with questions or information about your tape station (location, photos, etc) at tapes(at)chicagotapes(dot)org. You can also consult our Frequently Asked Questions page for additional help.
